Location and Directions to the Museum


White Sands Missile Range is located in south-central New Mexico off US Highway 70 between Las Cruces and Alamogordo. The White Sands Missile Range Museum is located just inside the Las Cruces/Alamogordo Main Post Gate on the left. Directions to the Las Cruces/Alamogordo Main Post Gate to White Sands Missile Range follow:

From Las Cruces:

  • Take Highway 25 north to Highway 70 East (Highway 70 is also called "Main Street")
  • Turn right onto Highway 70 East towards WSMR or Alamogordo
  • Continue on Highway 70 East for about 25 miles over the San Augustine Pass and exit just after mile marker 169.
  • Turn right onto Owen Rd
  • The Las Cruces/Alamogordo Main Post Gate is approximately 3 miles after the exit.

From Alamogordo:

  • Take Highway 70 west.
  • Proceed about 47 miles to the missile range exit labeled "Headquarters" just after mile marker 172. The exit ramp loops under Highway 70 onto Owen Rd.
  • The Las Cruces/Alamogordo main post gate is approximately 3 miles after you exit.

At The Gate:

  • Enter the visitors center parking lot and park your car.
  • At this point you can decide if you want to drive your car or walk a short distance to the museum.
  • If you decide to walk, you will need a photo ID and you can walk along the sidewalk to the right of the vehicle inspection area.
  • Follow the sidewalk across the first street and cross the main road at the crosswalk toward the museum.
  • If you decide to drive, follow the procedure below:

Getting a vehicle security pass at the Las Cruces Gate:

  • After parking your car, take your driverĀ“s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance and enter the visitor center building.  They will issue you a security pass to drive to the museum.
  • Return to your car and drive to the inspection point.  Once the security guards have cleared you, proceed straight ahead and turn left into the museum parking lot.
